- Description:
Late summer-fruiting
selection. Young shoots have a very sparse sprinkling of purplish-brown,
medium-sized prickles. New shoots are sparsely covered with bloom wax
over the lower two thirds or their length while the topmost is bare,
displaying a semi-erect habit The leaves are moderately rough-surfaced
between veins and are light green in color; they usually have 3 leaflets.
Flowering season on shoots from the previous year is late; the flowers
are quite small. Fruit-bearing branches are of moderate length. The
fruits are dull medium red in color, quite large, quite firm, longer
than broad, quite hairy and easily detachable from their receptacle.
- Important
characteristics:
Sugar content of the fruit is
comparable to that of "Festival" but greater than Boyne, Killarney and Nova
varieties. Fruit firmness is better than Boyne, Festival, Killarney and Nova
varieties. At
20°C, like SJR944-2 and SJR942-7,
the fruits keep well, retaining their shape and remaining firm for a substantial length of
time Looses little or no juice after several day of storage at room
temperature.
