Origine: S.A. Beach, Iowa Agricultural Experimental Station, Ames
(Iowa). Introduite en 1922. Salome x Jonathan. Fruit: assez attrayant,
gros; peau: rayée de rouge sur fond verdâtre; chair: juteuse, ferme, à
belle texture; saveur: vive, bonne; qualité: excellente; utilisation finale:
consommation en frais; maturation: le 20 octobre à Vineland (Ontario),
10 jours après la Jonathan; entreposage: jusqu’en mai. Pommier: un peu
rustique comme le Jonathan, à charpente solide, modérément productif,
produisant chaque année. Maladies et troubles: fruit très sensible au
blettissement d’entreposage, devenant parfois farineux ou avec fossette
amère, mais demeurant exempt de tache de la Jonathan. Autres
caractéristiques: le fruit tient bien à l’arbre; le pommier exige un
éclaircissage de fruits pour prévenir une production excessive.

flavor: sprightly, good; quality: excellent; end use: fresh; ripens Oct. 20
(Vineland, ON), 10 days after Jonathan; storage: till May. Tree: somewhat
hardy, like Jonathan, strong framework, moderately productive, annual
bearer. Diseases and disorders: very susceptible to storage breakdown, may
become mealy and show bitter pit, not susceptible to Jonathan spot. Other:
fruit hangs well; but should be thinned to prevent overbearing.
